About Us
Founder and CEO, Liz Erickson Monson, became a widow too early in life and realized that although she was able to visit her late husband often, many others are not. That’s where the idea started, to provide the love and care she gives to her husband’s marker to others.
When her husband passed away, she made sure he had a beautiful spot in their favorite city with buses, and bikers and so much city life going on around him that he, and anyone who visited him, would be able to appreciate the juxtaposition of life and death.
Because of this, Liz visits cemeteries more often than most her age. She finds peace there, especially since she often has the place to herself. However, when she visited a cemetery during a major memorial holiday, she couldn't believe all the people who were around! It made her realize two things:
- There are likely a lot more people that would want to visit their loved ones if they could.
- She needed to figure out a plan for what would happen if she could no longer visit her late husband.
That's where this passion project came from: to visit gravesites on behalf of those who are unable. Whether they are too busy, no longer able bodied, live too far away, or simply don't have the time, she would be their Grave Buddy.
